Meet the Tribe: Maria Ramirez

Although Maria Ramirez currently holds the title of bagger at The Ziegenfelder Company plant in Denver, she admits she wears a lot of hats every shift.  Her favorite part of the job allows her to work alongside her son, Aaron Ramirez. He is currently a maintenance tech at the Denver facility and also helps in production.

“I love doing production,” said Maria. “I love working with my son, Aaron. If I have advice to give it would be to try hard and be nice. I was born in Durango, Mexico. It’s in West Central Mexico. I moved to Chicago a long time ago. I like living in Colorado much better than Chicago.”

While living in Chicago, Maria explained that she worked at a factory making buttons. She started working at the Jackson Ice Cream plant in 2000 at the facility now owned by The Ziegenfelder Company.

“In February, I will have worked at this plant for 18 years,” said Maria. “I have done lots of different jobs, probably close to a dozen.”

Maria’s diligence to do her best at all times resulted in this nomination for Meet the Tribe from her coworker Huy Vo. He cited her achievement of putting in over 146 hours in just two weeks as her dedication to always help her Zieggy Tribe members.

“Maria puts in so many hours to this place,” said Huy. “Whenever we need help, Maria is here in the building. Snow, rain or whatever is happening, she is here.”

Outside of work, Maria spends as much time with her family as possible.

“I love to play with my grandkids in the park,” said Maria. “I used to love to cool big meals but not now. I did that for my children for a long time. Now only for my children’s birthdays.”
