Wheeling native Jalena Marshall has found herself once again in her hometown. This time she came to the Friendly City to start achieving her career goals in safety management at The Ziegenfelder Company.

“The safety manager at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown actually came into one of my classes while I was studying at West Virginia University,” said Jalena. “She talked to us about safety management and that gave me another option on something that interested me. They had a great safety program at West Virginia University and I got into their masters program. From there, I ended up here at The Ziegenfelder Company.”

Jalena graduated with a masters degree in safety management in May 2017. She started her internship with The Ziegenfelder Company in June 2017. Those working with her quickly realized her skills were valuable to the company. She was hired full time in the safety department at the Ziegenfelder facility in Wheeling by the end of September.

“I interviewed Jalena for her internship,” said Matt Porter, the Plant Supervisor in Wheeling. “She’s very energetic, inquisitive and interested in all parts of the process even beyond safety. She wants to be engaged in our Zieggy Tribe 100 percent.”

Jalena explained her favorite part of working at The Ziegenfelder Company includes the teamwork displayed by the Zieggy Tribe.

“We all work together here and help when we see something that needs done,” said Jalena. “I’ve helped our payroll specialist at times. I’ve helped our Human Resources department with various internal engagement tasks. It’s nice to know that everyone here has each other’s back. I have fun with my coworkers. If I’m having a bad day, I feel like they help me get through the day. I like how the Zieggy Essentials are a code to live by. Everyone here tries to respect the Essentials and be better because of them.”

Outside of work, Jalena enjoys spending time with her Mom, her boyfriend and her so-to-be 2-year-old Siberian Husky named Giovanni.

“I love my Mom, Janel. She’s my best friend,” said Jalena. “She’s a single mother and the best person ever. She’s very encouraging and I wouldn’t be where I am without her. My boyfriend Cameron and I have been together for two years. He works in Cleveland as a software engineer and we get to see each other every weekend.”
